• Hello all. These warnings bugs me. Can someone explain why a plugin author would release an update when it hasn’t been tested for the latest version of WP (WordPress)?

I logged in to my site the other day for the first in several weeks and out of the 20 plugins I’m running, 18 reported they had updates. I always view the ‘details’ page before I install an update, and I found 8 out of the 18 updates had the WARNING they were not tested for my version of WP! So I couldn’t (wouldn’t) install half of the updates.

I always run the most recent version of WP, so it’s not like I’m using an old version. And in case they are looking at other measurements, I also always ensure any new Health Report issues are resolved. And WP hasn’t had an update in a while, so it’s not like a new WP update was just released at the same time.

So I don’t understand, why release an update if it wasn’t tested for the current version of WP? Why release it at all? I also wonder then what version of WP are they testing their update with? It doesn’t make sense to me. Is there a GOOD reason?

    Thanks…JEB

Because they are under no obligation to do anything, not update, not test, not support, etc. and no one ever will be. Plugin and theme developers here do not owe anyone, not users, anything and do not need to provide any explanations for updates.

You could just ask them in their plugin’s support forum. 😉

Often they just forget to update the many tags in the plugin’s readme.txt file. More times than not, that is the case.
