Hi, my Easy WP SMTP plugin suddenly stopped working 4 days ago. I didn’t change any of the settings. I had updated some other plugins a few days before but these weren’t anything to do with email sending.

I tried installing a different SMTP plugin but this didn’t work either. Same reason, the password authentication was failing. So I reinstalled the Easy WP SMTP plugin and it started working again.

Less than 24 hours later it is failing again.

Clearly it’s not a password issue or it wouldn’t have started working again.

Has anyone had this isssue or know of anything I can try to fix this.

    Thank you

This is the error log from the test email:

SMTP ERROR: Password command failed: 535 Incorrect authentication data
SMTP Error: Could not authenticate.CLIENT -> SERVER: QUIT
    SMTP Error: Could not authenticate.

Hi, have you tried contacting your host about any possible changes made to your server?

    Thank you

    Some additional information for you.

I changed my email and password to an alternate and it worked fine. This is an email hosted on the same server.

My host then changed it back to my original email that wasn’t working and it is now working again.

Could it be that the plugin is losing settings?

    Hi,

I changed my email and password to an alternate and it worked fine. This is an email hosted on the same server.

So you are saying that the changes you made worked with our plugin. Is this correct?

My host then changed it back to my original email that wasn’t working and it is now working again.

When this change was made by your host, did you also update the settings in our plugin?

Could it be that the plugin is losing settings?`

No. If you make changes to your email server, then you also have update the settings in our plugin or else you will see an error message.

    Kind regards

Yes, changing to a different email address that uses same server worked.

My host changed the plugin settings back to the original email settings but he alse said he reset my SMTP password to the same one to force a password syncs across all systems. (I’m not 100% sure what this means)

For the moment it is working with the email I originally had. I’m monitoring it and will report back if it stops working again.

    Thank you

I look forward to hearing from you.

So this issue has just happened again. I’ve not changed any passwords.

Hi, please try the following. Uninstall the plugin, then install a fresh new copy. Let me know if this helps you. Can you also try to access your servers log files. Hopefully the log files might reveal information that might help.

    Thank you.
