[Resolved] Plugin Spam

  • Is there a process to validate Plugins? I have gotten plugins with secret spam links to Pay Day Loan sites etc. thus causing my site to be deindexed by Google. It takes months to recover, sometimes never does.

I do not download plugins from websites. I only use plugins from WordPress but still get spammy links and other BS code imbedded. It’s getting to the point where I can’t trust any plugins and have to verify the code myself. Many not so technical people can’t do this.

What’s the solution to this problem?

Can you provide an example of such a plugin in the WordPress repo? What you describe sounds like a compromised WordPress installation or server.

Many plugins do add portions to the admin page such as a widget or even optionally a link to the author’s site. But a plugin that does what you’ve described is strictly forbidden and not allowed.

If you’ve found a plugin in the WordPress repository here that does contain code that links to Pay Day Loan sites then please report them to plugins [at] wordpress.org. That really is the best way to deal with those plugins.

Sorry, I can not. Thank you.
