[Plugin: PHPBB Single Sign On] Separate database support

I have recently read that the phpbb single sign on doesn’t support separate databases yet, however while using WP 3.0.1 and the phpbb single sign on version 0.7, I used separate databases for WP and PHPBB and had success in activating the single sign on. I didn’t change anything in the plugin as it just worked out of the box. I was wondering if anybody was able to get the newest plugin working on WP 3.1.1 using separate databases for both WP and PHPBB?
