[Plugin: Online Backup for WordPress] Decrypt Backup issues

    I get a weekly e-mail sent to me with my encrypted backup. I have Web site issues, so I follow your instructions from a previous post:

    The new version, 2.2.0, now can decrypt files uploaded by FTP. You just upload them to /wp-content/plugins/wponlinebackup/tmp/decrypt folder and the file will appear on the Decrypt a Backup page where you can select it, enter encryption details and then decrypt it.

    Sure enough, the file shows up, I select it and add my encryption details.

    However, I get this error message:

    The backup could not be decrypted; the encryption details specified were incorrect.

    Here’s the issue: the encryption details that I am entering are identical to my encryption details on the general settings tab AND the encryption details I e-mailed myself six months ago when I set up the account.

    Is there another issue that can be causing this error message? When I hit the button to “decrypt backup” I get the message right away, it’s like it’s not even checking the encryption credentials.

    Hi timharv,

    Do you know which version of the plugin created the backup? If it was an older version than 2.2.0, try making a new backup with 2.2.0 and downloading it to your computer. Then upload it via FTP and try to decrypt it. See if that works.

    I’ll have another look at previous version plugin backups to make sure they decrypt.

    Hi timharv,

    Was the backup you want decrypting created using version 2.2.0 or an earlier version?

    Can’t seem to find any issue here yet with AES128 through 2.0.0 to 2.2.0. Can you let me know which encryption type you are using. Is it AES192/256/128/DES? How many characters in length is the encryption key? (In case it is affecting it) I’ll try some more tests with the information you give to try mirror exactly what your setup is as you are second person to report something like this so something must be wrong somewhere.

    Unfortunately, I don’t know what version was used originally or subsequently for the backups since the entire Web site was lost. I can tell you it was originally installed in late December of 2011.

    I had the backups sent to me via e-mail weekly. I used AES128 and the number of characters is 10. I’d be glad to send screen shots of my credentials and the issues to support.

    Hi timharv,

    What version of PHP does your server run. Do you know this?
    If you’d like, you can send me an email with the credentials for the encryption, and also the backup file – and I will see if I can decrypt on my system – if you are OK to do so. The email address is support “at” backup-technology “dot” co “dot” uk
    I am thinking at the moment it might be PHP version related but this will find out for sure and it will give us the opportunity to fix the issue if there is one.
