[Plugin: NextGen] Slide Nav With Long Filename Breaks
-
Alex & Co,
A quirk in NextGen gallery that I had the displeasure of coming up against. When NextGen imports the metadata of a photo, it might put an entire paragraph as the Alt & Title Text thus naming the file in NextGen the same as the Alt & Title Text. When this is the case, for one file in the entire set of files, it breaks the formatting of the slideshow navigation.
It doesn’t matter which order the files are or whether or not more than one file has an unusually long Alt & Title Text. It only takes one file in the set with a significant amount of characters to set the navigation outside of the bounds of the Flash viewer–then that navigation is set that way for every file.
For instance, this is a significant enough set of characters to break a slideshow sized 400×300:
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890
It is possible that a larger sized slideshow would require a longer string of characters to move the navigation button out of bounds.
Here are the steps to recreate the bug:
- Have a page ready to put a gallery on and NextGen Gallery Installed
- Create a brand new NextGen Gallery
- Upload photos to the Gallery–some of these photos may have metadata, but it is not necessary to recreate this bug
- View the Manage Gallery section
- Select the newly created gallery
- Associate the new gallery with a page
- Pick one photo at random and insert a string of characters in excess of 50-60 characters into the Alt & Title Text field of that photo
- Update gallery settings
- View page with gallery on it. You will see the center navigation stretching the navigation buttons beyond the boundaries of the Flash Viewer
Again, this is true no matter the position of the photo in the set.
Suggestions to improve:
* Do not have the Filename in Nextgen be the same as the Alt & Title Text.
* Do not allow Filename in Nextgen to exceed n characters.
Thank you. I enjoy using your plugin. I want to help.
