Hi @tomdkat,
Thanks so much for checking in, and sorry for the delay in getting back to you!
Yes, the plugin is still actively maintained — it hasn’t been abandoned. Our team is aware that WordPress 7.0 and 7.1 are out, and we do have compatibility updates planned to make sure everything works smoothly with the latest versions.
I don’t have an exact release date to share just yet, but rest assured this is on our radar. Feel free to keep an eye on the plugin’s changelog for updates, and please don’t hesitate to reach out again if you run into any issues in the meantime.
Thanks again for your patience!

Good morning! Thanks for the message! Yeah, the reading time wasn’t being properly calculated, after upgrading to WordPress 7.0.x, so I ultimately replaced this plugin with another one that is compatible with WordPress 7.0/7.1.
Thanks for taking the time to respond! I hope this discussion will be helpful for others using or considering this plugin. 🙂
Hi @tomdkat,
Thanks so much for the update, and totally understandable — when the reading time calculation broke after upgrading to WordPress 7.0.x, you needed something that worked right away. No hard feelings at all!
Just wanted to follow up in case it’s helpful: our team is close to rolling out an update that brings full compatibility with WordPress 7.0 and 7.1, including a fix for the reading time calculation issue you ran into. It should be out soon, so if you ever want to give Read Meter another try down the line, that issue should be resolved.
And thank you for looping back to share your experience here.
With Regards
Humayon
