I am having the same problem. Whenever I add a widget it takes away all the old ones. I was using mondo zen theme and now I am using gold pot. See tranquilbeautyinsight.com

It could be related to the new Widget API in WordPress 2.8. I will try to fix this as soon as possible.
Downgraded and runs on 2.7.1 MU couple of minor probs which i have commented on your site.
Want to get it running fully before another upgrade

This issue has a really hard-find solution, at least it was for me.
Ok this is mostly due to another widget conflicting, so try deactivating each widget that you suspect, in my case it was a widget that i was developing so ill have to check what’s wrong there =P I’ll post more info when i find the error so other can have a better idea of the posible problem.
FYI: I read that wp-events widget can cause this issue.
