PLUGIN INSTALL failed to connect to ftp server

    I’m trying to install/delete some plugins on my wordpress.org website.
    It’s worked smoothly for years but suddenly I started getting this error message:

    failed to connect to ftp server http://www.NAME-OF-MY-WEBSITE:21

    Why is this happening?

    And how do I fix it?

    I have changed nothing, it just suddenly started happening

    Sounds like a possible issue with webhosting or credentials to access.
    Can you check with your webhosting vendor to get some insights.
