• Resolved corpcasting

I logged into my site for the first time in about a week and the Wordfence plugin was gone. I checked the FTP .. and the folder for it was there, but the only thing inside was an empty folder called “tmp”. I wasn’t able to reinstall the plugin until I deleted the Wordfence folder in the Plugins folder. Any idea what could have caused this?

  • Hi,

Does anyone else have access to FTP to your site? There is nothing I can think of on our end that would have caused Wordfence to be removed.

    Thanks,
    Brian

No one else has access to the FTP. I’ve been building wordpress sites for 6+ years and have never seen something like this happen.

I have not seen this before either. You may want to check with your host to see if they have had any similar issues.

If they had issues with the disks and restored from backups, they may have lost files that were created on a certain date (which may be after your last update) — it would be rare that they wouldn’t have restored the older version of the files, though it might be possible on LVM volumes that are split across multiple disks (but again, I haven’t seen that happen either).

corpcasting: Just checking in — were you able to find how the plugin was removed, and was the hosting company any help?

Hey Matt – Thanks for checking in. This one still remains a mystery. I checked with my host (GoDaddy) and they were at a loss as well.

Ok. I’ll mark this resolved for now, as it sounds like it was most likely a problem on the particular host, but if it happens again, definitely let us know.

Sounds good. Will do. Thanks Matt.
