Plugin Causing White Screen After Admin Login
-
Plugin is Causing White Screen After Admin Login. Seems to have just started around Friday of last week. When we deactivate the plugin (via FTP), the admin returns to normal.

Hi @jvmd,
Thank you for reaching out. I understand how frustrating it can be when activating a plugin results in a white screen after logging into the WordPress admin.
A white screen typically indicates that there is a conflict between the plugin and another plugin, the active theme, or a server-side issue.
To help identify the exact cause, could you please try the following on a staging site?
- Deactivate all plugins except WooCommerce.
- Switch to a default WordPress theme, such as Twenty Twenty-Five.
- Reinstall and activate the Google for WooCommerce plugin, then check whether you still encounter the white screen.
- If the issue does not occur, gradually reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each activation until the issue returns. This will help identify whether a plugin conflict is causing the problem.
- If the issue does occur even with only WooCommerce, a default theme, and Google for WooCommerce active, please let us know.
If you don’t already have a staging site, we strongly recommend using one for these tests to avoid impacting your live store.
Please let us know what you find, and we’ll be happy to assist you further based on the results.
Yes, we already did all that, which is how we discovered it was this plugin causing it. Here’s the thing though – we have been using the plugin for some time with no issues. Then approximately around 7/24 when logging into the admin, the entire admin is a white screen. No errors in the log and no notifications when turning on WP_DEBUG. The site does allow you to log in, but then it’s the white screen. Viewing source code, it’s completely empty … no code at all.
We even added echo ‘Reached admin.php<br>’; to wp-admin/admin.php and the admin is being successfully reached.
We set up a staging server, renamed the plugins folder, then turned each plugin on one by one. When turning this plugin on, the admin screen went white again. Whatever is going on, does not affect the front end of the site.Hi @jvmd!
Thank you for providing these additional details and for walking us through the troubleshooting you’ve already performed. The staging test showing that the admin white screen returns specifically when the Google for WooCommerce plugin is activated is very helpful.
Since I’m not currently able to reproduce the issue on my end, I’d like to narrow down the environment in which this occurs. Could you please confirm the following?
- When you activated Google for WooCommerce and the issue appeared, was WooCommerce and Google for WooCommerce the only active plugins, or were any other plugins active at the time?
- Which theme was active during the test? Were you using a default theme such as Twenty Twenty-Five or Storefront, or was another theme active?
- Have you tried completely removing Google for WooCommerce and then reinstalling a fresh copy of the plugin to see whether the issue persists?
If possible, please also perform one additional test with only WooCommerce + Google for WooCommerce active and a default theme such as Twenty Twenty-Five. If activating Google for WooCommerce still causes the admin to become completely blank in that setup, that would help us isolate the issue further.
Could you also share the following with us?
- WooCommerce System Status Report: Go to WooCommerce → Status → Get system report → Copy for support.
- Fatal Error Logs: Go to WooCommerce → Status → Logs and share any relevant logs from around the time the white screen occurs.
For easier sharing, you can paste the System Status Report and relevant error logs into Pastebin and send us the links. When creating the Pastebin entries, please make sure the “Burn after read” option is turned off, so the reports remain available for us to review.
These details will help us compare your environment with our testing and determine why activating Google for WooCommerce is causing the admin area to return a completely blank response.
Ok here is what exactly is happening. It does not seem to be theme dependent (have used our custom theme and the default WordPress theme). Since we don’t have admin access when the screen is white, we rename /plugins/ to /-plugins/ on the server. We get back in, refresh the plugins page, then rename it back to /plugins/ on the server. We active Woocommerce and Google for Woocommerce. Everything seems fine. So we active all other plugins one by one. Everything still seems fine, admin is working. We flush cache, log in again, still working. However, within 1-2 days, the white admin is back. We deactivate Google for Woocommerce and the admin comes back again. We’ve gone through the deactivate/reactive plugins procedure on our staging server 3x times now. We’ve never encountered anything like this before.
Hi @jvmd
Thanks for providing these detailed steps.
Since the issue takes 1–2 days to reappear, it would be useful to capture the exact error when the admin goes white rather than continuing to deactivate and reactivate plugins.
When the issue occurs again, could you please check the following and share the results with us?
- WooCommerce → Status → Logs — please check for any errors generated around the time the white screen occurs.
- Your server/PHP error log, if available.
- The browser console (right-click → Inspect → Console) while loading the affected admin page.
If possible, please share the relevant errors from the time the issue occurs. This should help us determine what Google for WooCommerce is doing when the admin becomes inaccessible.
For easier sharing, you can paste the System Status Report and relevant error logs into Pastebin and send us the links. When creating the Pastebin entries, please make sure the “Burn after read” option is turned off, so the reports remain available for us to review.
Like I mentioned, we’ve checked all error logs and because zero code shows up on the admin page when this happens (literally blank), it’s not throwing any errors in any web logs (Web error log also has 0 bytes) or on the console. You can see a console screenshot at https://snipboard.io/tr8GLo.jpg So we attempted to log in to the admin on the staging server again and, as before, it’s the white screen again. Since it’s the white admin, we can’t access Woocommerce status reports until we deactivate/reactivate plugins again.
Hi @jvmd
Thanks for taking the time to share those additional details and for explaining the troubleshooting you’ve already performed. I appreciate the update.
Since the issue results in a completely blank admin page without any errors being logged, we’d like to gather a bit more information before escalating this internally for further investigation.
When you’re able to access the admin again (after deactivating/reactivating the plugins), could you please share your WooCommerce System Status Report?
You can find it under WooCommerce → Status and use the Copy for support button. As the report can be quite long, please paste it into a service like Pastebin and share the link with us, rather than posting it directly in the thread.
This information will help us investigate the issue further and provide our team with the details needed when we escalate it internally.
Looking forward to your update!
We logged into the server and only deactivated your plugin, logged into the admin, reactivated it and then got the Status report > https://pastebin.com/9vTxNe1Z Please note, we have not updated any other plugins on this staging environment since this started happening. However, on the live site, we have updated plugins and that did not see to have an effect on this issue.
ThanksHi @jvmd
Thank you for sharing the System Status Report and for taking the time to test this on your staging site.
I have escalated the issue internally so our team can investigate it further.
In the meantime, we’ve released Google for WooCommerce 3.9.0. Could you please update the plugin to the latest version on your staging site? While you’re at it, I’d also recommend updating the other plugins to their latest versions and then monitoring the site to see if the issue still occurs.
Please let us know the results after testing, as that will help us determine whether the latest updates have any effect on the issue.
