• Using the Enfold theme, the cookie law info plugin causes servere issues.

The theme allows for Page selection to display or hide the Sidebar.
This works fine without Cookie-Law-Info, but when Cookie-Law-Info is activated, then despite the Page selection saying no sidebar, it is still displayed.

I noted that in previous responses you comment that you do not offer specific support, I will therefore have to find another plugin, that does not cause these issues.

Can I ask has anyone else seen this sidebar issue with Cookie-Law-Info ?

    Hi,

I do provide lots of support for my plugin but in some cases I’d need access to either theme files, server or both in order to fix the issue and that is where I can’t and don’t offer support.

In most support requests the issue is with a plugin hardcoding a script rather than using wp_enqueue_script() or not using the standard WP head and footer hooks. You can normally spot this my viewing source and observing missing code or duplicate scripts (usually several versions of jquery) or by checking the JavaScript console for errors. More info at http://www.cookielawinfo.com/troubleshooting.

In your case if you let me know the URL I can take a look, but I’m sure you appreciate that this is a free plugin and I can’t purchase a bunch of commercial themes each time an error is reported. The plugin works on > 95% of themes without an issue and it sounds like your theme has some custom sidebar function which would indicate to me that the issue is related to how that works- in which case I’d need access to your theme files, the server or both.

That said- let me know the URL and I’ll happily take a look.

    All the best,
    Richard

Update: I checked your site bamboo rocket apps which features my plugin and seems to work fine on the homepage. If there’s a specific URL where it should be working and isn’t let me know.

hi there, thanks for the response, really appreciate it.

The error is currently on my personal web site at the moment, I am wanting to use the same theme (Enfold) I have on my personal site, on my company website, and using my personal website as a test site.

it is on the home page of this site, page layout settings for the home page, should not display the sidebar, but when cookie-law-info is activated, the sidebar is shown???

    Many thanks

Did you spot what the issue was ?

    many thanks

    Hi Mark,

I’ve taken a look and the plugin works (as you told me it did) but the sidebar is showing- apparently according to your theme settings it should not. It does work on that standard WP themes e.g. 2012, 2013 so it’s pointing to it being a theme issue. I’d have to get quite deep into your theme’s code to investigate that which I’m not going to be able to do.

I’ve had reports of another compatibility issue with one of Kriesi’s themes, where the titles of cookie law info custom posts are displayed in the header- I did scan the source code on that one and it became clear that the feature controlling this was a key part of the theme and not something you can simply remove or switch off. Perhaps it’s the same with your theme.

If it were me I’d check a few things, some of which I suspect you have already done but I’m listing them here for anyone else’s benefit if reading this later:

    – Disable literally every single plugin and check functionality. After this, enable ONLY the cookie law info plugin and see what happens
    – Is there a maybe hidden setting that controls the sidebar in the admin panel?
    – Is this something that Kriesi’s support could provide more info on? e.g. an overview of how the sidebar works

If all else fails then you could try another plugin that does the same thing.

    All the best
    Richard

    Hi RIchard,

thanks for reply, I have deactivated all plugins (except bb forum (required by theme), and Juiz Last Tweet Widget (is widget on my home page) and when I do this, the side column in my theme is correctly displayed. i.e. on home page, it is removed.

Then when I activate ‘Cookie Law Info’ the error occurs, i.e. side bar is shown on home page.

so it is definitely something with Cookie Law info and my theme.

I will go back to Kriesi again.

    R

    Mark
