    I unchecked the box under System Tweaks next to “Write to WordPress core files”. I thought this would mean that Better WP Security would not try to update the .htaccess file. Apparently, that is not true. It looks like if I check the box next to “Blacklist repeat offender” (under Login Limits) it will still update the .htaccess file when the lockout limit specified is exceeded. I guess I need to uncheck that box as well if I want to be sure Better WP Security doesn’t try to update my .htaccess file.

    Another problem I found is that some of the entries in the “Ban Hosts” list are ignored. For example, I added the following line to the list of Banned Hosts:
    124.232.163.*

    This entry was ignored. That is, it does not show up in the list of banned hosts shown in the .htaccess file on the Dashboard.
