[Plugin: Better WP Security] Constant Site lockouts

    When my users access my home page too many times they get locked out on a consistent basis. It even locked me out constantly until I whitelisted myself.

    I get the following notification:
    “A host, ***, has been locked out of the WordPress site at http://www.brazosnow.com until *** due to too many attempts to open a file that does not exist. You may login to the site to manually release the lock if necessary.”

    I am not able to identify a missing file on my home page.

    Any suggestions? Thanks

    Check the log in the plugging settings. Someone is hitting pages (or parts of pages) that don’t exist. Sometimes this is caused by obsolete references in your theme/css/etc, sometimes it is caused by content you’ve removed yet still has plenty of links to it, and sometimes it is caused by bots looking to exploit a possible vulnerability on your site. You won’t know until you check your logs and see exactly what is missing.

    Help! Installed plugin yesterday and locked out of my business website. Looks like too many login attempts by hacker or bot. Email msg received today from you says in part: “You may login to the site to manually release the lock if necessary.”

    I cannot access my login page to release the lock. When I do try I get this msg:
    We’re sorry, but the page you are looking for isn’t here.
    Try searching for the page you are looking for or using the navigation in the header or sidebar

    How do I access my website today??

    BizWriter… Did you turn on away mode? Going to your backend with awaymode in effect will do that. Delete the row with the name bwps_awaymode from the options table of your database to remove the awaymode restriction.

    As for the lockout. Are they all due to too many login attempts or are some due to too many attempts to find a file that isn’t there?
