• Hi,

Since WooCommerce 10.9, checkout-draft orders no longer seem to be created during the checkout process.

The previous behavior was very useful for store owners because it made it easier to spot patterns that could indicate checkout issues or other problems before the customer reached the payment step.

I understand the change was made to reduce leftover draft orders, but inactive draft orders are automatically removed after a while anyway, so I don’t fully understand why this visibility was removed.

Could you please consider restoring the previous checkout-draft behavior?

If that is not possible as the default behavior, could there be a setting, filter, or opt-in option for stores that still want this visibility?

    Thanks,

    Frank

    Hi @medusa88,

    thank you for your feedback.

I’m curious what type of issues you generally observed. Maybe there is a better way to surface them that doesn’t involve the early draft order.

    Hi Raluca,

It was not necessarily about one specific issue, but more that checkout-draft orders worked as an early warning signal.

For example, if I suddenly saw many checkout-draft orders but very few or no completed orders, that could quickly indicate that something was wrong in the checkout process, with a recent update, payment method, shipping setup, or another checkout-related change.

Without the draft orders, I only seem to see the order once the customer reaches “Pending payment”, so a lot of the earlier visibility is lost.

Google Analytics can show general funnel data, but it does not give the same WooCommerce-level visibility into incomplete checkout sessions.

If restoring the previous behavior is not possible, is there any built-in alternative, setting, filter, or hook that can show incomplete checkout sessions before the customer reaches the payment step?
