Please Help – New to the WordPress World

    Hello. I am trying to figure a few things out with my company site. It has been difficult for me thus far because I am not a computer wiz, and I do not know code.

    I am trying to figure out how to post youtube and vimeo videos on to my site. I think I have figured out how to get them on, but I am still encountering some problems.

    I open up wordpress, click on the youtube link, then copy the url into the suggested box. Seems simple enough. It is working on my site when I do this. That being said, when you go to the front page of my site, you see an embed code that you cannot click on, that just looks terrible. If you click the article itself in the case the word “Test” You will go to a page and be able to view the video file.

    My goal is to go onto my homepage see the Article, and be able to click on the link to view the video. I don’t want the link to be a paragraph long and look terrible. Is there a way that I can take the link when it is posted, and change it so that the link reads something along the lines of ‘Watch Video” or “Johnny’s Highlights”. The person that was running my site did this a while back. I had a video posted. He changed the link to read “Garnet Valley Vs. Ridley” Then when you clicked on the link, the screen appeared and you could watch the video.

    Please help! I am trying to do this myself, and it is getting tough. my site.

    TeamGridiron,

    The WP theme you are using strips out the code on the home page. Read this post that shows you what to do:

    WPSEC. Thank you. I went into my index.php file. I searched for the_excerpt(), but was unable to find it. I did already notice the_content(”) was in the page. I did have someone running this site for me at one point, and they did post a video on the home page, and when you clicked on the link it worked easily.

    Unfortunately I have had a hard time keeping in touch with him, and I need to learn how to do it on myself. I used the youtube plugin on the edit page. It worked to get the video on the site, but the homepage as you can see looks terrible http://www.TeamGridiron.com

    Now, I tried to add a hyperlink so that it cleans up, but I am still seeing the embed code on the front page and now the video will not work at all.

    I have emailed you some instructions for your theme to show your video on the home page, bypassing the excerpt.

    Let me know if that helps.
