Please Help Create A WordPress Theme

    Hello, this is my first post here.

    I have designed a weblayout for a friend and would like to use wp as a cms so I can hand the site over to him wnace it is set up. I have fairly good understanding of html and css but struggle with php.

    I would like to know if I am on the right track.

    So far

    – I uploaded my website files into the Theme folder.
    – Included a style sheet header (Was not sure about ‘Theme URI:’ I put url/wp-content/themes/Jacob, as that is where I put the css file?)
    – selected the new theme in admin (After a few attempts that is.)

    Next

    – Make the theme dynamic/compatible with wp.
    – Via admain create top nav and side columns links. Add text content via admin to the new pages.

    I am currently looking at wp widgets and sidebar markup

    Would the next step be to copy the directory structure of say the default wp theme, eg. have footer.php header.php image.php etc?
