hey.. im so not good at figuring all of this stuff out.. you see i dont know what all these terms mean, how does one upload a php. file (what ever that is into the wp-content directory.. im not sure if thats even right… ok.. so say i find a theme i like.. the instructions seem to be made for someone who knows a computer inside and out… if any one can help me i would be soo so soooo grateful

To upload the php files you’ll need an FTP (file transfer protocol) program. A good free one is Filezilla.

Once you’re connected to your webhost, the files and folders will appear very similar to what you’d see in Windows. You use the FTP program to copy the files to the wp-content/themes directory on your web server. Then you can activate the Theme from inside the WordPress Administration Panel.

Sorry, no, Filezilla doesn’t work with Mac. Try Fetch.

Fetch is shareware, though free trial and free license for education usage. I would recommend checking out cyberduck, an ” open source SFTP (SSH Secure File Transfer) and FTP browser licenced under the GPL.”

While doing so, also look into smultron a “open-source text editor written in Cocoa for Mac OS X”. Smultron works with cyberduck, allowing to edit files on the fly.

Care to expound on why and what those two shareware apps have that the two I mentioned don’t? Especially in regards to the average WordPress user.
