Pique Template Help (Map overlay)

I really quite like the Pique template, but I have zero idea how to code, and don’t fully understand exactly how to get the map to display in the background, like they have shown. ie. where precisely to put the code, what specific things need changing etc). When I input the code, it says there are several errors. I’m assuming I need to edit it somehow, but I’m not sure how. To reiterate, I want to produce a map exactly as shown here:
