    Hello,

    does the default stuff shipped with all the WP releases under “Writing” grant the submission of updated content to Google and Bing somehow?

    Not by default. Pingbacks are automatically sent to sites linked in a post if you’ve enabled pingbacks in settings. Pingomatic has some sort of API one could use to automatically use their service. There seem to be plugins to do that.

    I imagine if you include your blog listing page in your sitemap and it has an appropriate update frequency value, search engines will find new posts soon enough on their own. There’s no reason you couldn’t do both.
