• Hi,

My wordpress blog fails to upload pictures. The error message I get is:

Unable to create directory /home/mytryath/public_html/blogger/wp-content/uploads/2009/10. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Thanks a lot!

  • I am having the same problem?

you need to chmod all of these folders
    /wp-content/uploads/2009/10
    to 777
    upload an image
    chmod all back to 755
    should work from now on

Also had this problem and it seems solved! Thanks!!

    Hi samboll,

Thank you very much for your response. If you don’t mind to answer another question. I am fairly new to wordpress and have never used chmod. Would you be able to guide me through that?

So far I tried going through the terminal on my mac and used “chmod 777 wp-content” within my blog directory on my computer and then I uploaded that new wp-content to my server. That, however, did not work (could not upload pictures). So, I am wondering, if I do something wrong.

You also mentioned to chmod all back to 755… So, I am really stuck…

I’d appreciate if you could give me another tip!

    Thanks again!

You need to chmod the folders on your server. There should be an option to chmod/change permissions on remote folders in whatever FTP application you’re using to upload to your server.

Thanks very much for your help! I found it on my server and it works now… Great!

I am really struggling with pictures and need some help.

I have managed to get them up into the Media Gallery – no problems there.

When I click the button to upload them nothing happens.

I’ve tried changing my theme and that doesn’t work. I’ve left things for a couple of days and that doesn’t resolve problems.

I need a very simple explanation of what to do, please. I’m learning each technical item as I go along.

    Using WordPress 2.8.4

    MA

When I click the button to upload them nothing happens.

    nothing? white screen? redirect?
    exactly what is nothing?

Thank you for asking for clarification.

There is text: upload/insert and some icons next to them on my screen.

The first icon is for uploading an image.

I click on it. The main screen does not change. At the bottom of the screen a lot of text appears. The last characters are: iframe=true

However when I move my mouse to try to capture the text – so I can copy it – a different message appears.

There is a small yellow triangle with: “Done, but with errors on page” next to it.

I have tried clicking on all the icons along the line following from upload/insert but they do not respond.

When I first started the site I managed to upload a couple of pictures. However, I tried to upload an image into an item I had already posted and since then I have had this trouble.

I have, therefore, seen what I think should happen. A black screen with a bar in the middle of it appears and then the picture arrives in the post.

    That doesn’t happen now.

As things stand it looks like I can’t upload any more images.

Advice on what to do next would be most welcome. (I don’t know how to work with html – yet.)

    What browser are you using?

    I use Internet Explorer
I have clicked on the yellow triangle.

    The message is:

    Line 27
    Ch 5251
Error Expect (I) or is it 1 (one)
    Code 0:
    URL (my website name) /wp-admin/post-new.php

I’ve also tried going to the Media Gallery and opening an image and clicking insert into post. Again it doesn’t happen.

I can’t insert images into existing posts either.

Which version of IE? And yes, it matters šŸ™‚

Also, are you using the flash uploader or the file uploader?

    Thank you for your perseverence.

My internet explorer is version 6.

The media page says I am using the Flash uploader.

I have had no problems in uploading inages into the media library. It’s getting them into posts that’s my problem, although I could do this when I first started working with WordPress.

    /wp-content/uploads/2009/10
    to 777
    upload an image
    chmod all back to 755

I’ve accessed my server and changed the permissions from 755 to 777 on the following folders: WP-Content, Uploads, Year (2009), and Month (10, 11, 12).

I’ve uploaded images to my blog using Safari with the Flash Uploader.

    Post location: http://michaelvenske.com/blog/?p=703

I have changed permissions back to 755 for all folders, but the image doesn’t appear (see blog link).

Do I need to change the permissions for each image in a folder?

    Looking forward to your thoughts.

    Thank you,

    Michael

I thought I’d add my thanks to Ipstenu who asked me about my internet browser when addressing my problem.

After reading the comments and suggestions I went and learned about different browsers and have now changed browser.

This has solved my problem with uploading pictures.

Thanks to the forum for helping me with this.
