Permalinks Problem

All of a sudden I realized whenever I edit a “page” I find that all of my permalinks stop working…I cannot access any “pages” or redirections afterwards. Posts work. The only remedy for this is for me to go to Setting -> Permalinks, choose “Default” and save then go back again and select “Numeric”. I disabled all plugins and things were still screwy…the only thing I was thinking of doing was searching through WP and try to do whatever is accomplished when I reset the permalinks after I do a update on a page.

Any ideas are appreciated,
