I have been using WAMP as my testing environment for a while and this has bugged me since day one. My permalinks are http://www.example.com/index.php/my-page. On my server they are formatted as http://www.example.com/my-page. Any ideas on why the WAMP server is different?

Hi Joshua!

This is caused by the mod_rewrite.so module not being loaded in Apache.

In your httpd.conf file, you’ll need to add this line:

LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so

After saving the file, restart Apache.

I just noticed WAMP does not even have a .htaccess file. Is there anything i should place into the one im creating? I have no knowledge of Apache’s .htaccess file.

Ah, that would also be part of the problem. You can find a copy of the basic WordPress .htaccess file here:
