  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

hi I have tried deactivating plugins and i have tried resetting the plugins via ftp neither of these makes any difference the custom setting will not accept postname it will accept gategory postname.

Haven’t done much like this before will changing the theme cause any problems with the content when i move the theme back?
can i just upload a fresh version of wp-admin and wp-includes without causing any problems to my site content

No – your content is stored in your database – not in the theme.

    Yes.
