• Hi All,
I am at my wits end, hope someone can help. I think I have a permalink problem.

I transferred contents of a blog from wordpress.com – http://fxintradayjim.wordpress.com to a self hosted blog today http://intradayforextrading.co.uk – no problems it seemed first off.

Everything linked well and was working – joy.

I then did a number of things, like adding some widgets and tidying up the new site. Then for some reason my pictures (jpg’s) linked within my posts disappeared. The caption was visible but when I clicked on the embedded image I got the “URL cannot be found…..404” error.

I have looked through this site and tried many things :

    1) Deleted cookies and re-saved permalinks
    2) Checked .htaccess permissions is 644 and again tried to reset permalinks
    3) Deleted the .htacess file

All to no avail. Before deleting the .htaccess file I edited it and noticed it was empty – should it be ?

I updated my wordpress version to 3.0.1 during the problem to see if that would help – no.

I am at a loss what to do now to get my links back working.

Hope someone can help……I loved my blog for all of 1hr until the pics went awol!

    Jimmy G

  • I see the images so presume you resolved the issue.

    Hi Webjunk
    thanks for replying.

Well no; where you can see pictures is where I have gone into to those posts and manually edited the post by deleting the picture, saving the post then re-editing again and adding the same picture.

Further down the blog you’ll see links that dont go anywhere.

Hope you can have some ideas, I dont want to have to manually edit nearly a years worth of posts.

    thanks

ps – I have double checked the server via file manager in CP and found the file – the location URL matches the link given within wordpress and the filename matches so no idea why WP says file cannot be found.

I don’t want to view your “years woirth of post” so can you point a link to one specific problem post?

sorry, yes that would help !

What have managed to do is go back the last 2 months and have manually re-inserted the embedded pictures and other links. It actually wasn’t so difficult in the end.

I’ll go thru the previous months in good time. So no need for any further assistance

    thanks anyway for offering
