Hi, I tried reversing my permalink structure to put the post name first, then the day, month and year – but whilst the main post links work fine and display as I want, the archives all give 404’s.

I’ve read a lot of the permalink posts but none seem to answer this problem specifically. I’d appreciate a pointer to an exact dupe or some help please, cheers.

It’s possible WordPress didn’t write the new rules to the .htaccess. Try renaming your original .htaccess to .htaccess.old, creating any empty .htaccess (make sure it’s writeable by the server!) and re-do the permalinks.

    Hi Mark,

I’ve already tried deleting the .htaccess, which screws everything as you’d expect ’til I go to options>permailinks and use the recreate structure button – but although posts on the home page link fine and display as I want, archives and search are still bust.

    Any ideas please?

Are you using a category base?
