Support » Fixing WordPress » Permalink Archive 404 Errors

  • Hi, I tried reversing my permalink structure to put the post name first, then the day, month and year – but whilst the main post links work fine and display as I want, the archives all give 404’s.

I’ve read a lot of the permalink posts but none seem to answer this problem specifically. I’d appreciate a pointer to an exact dupe or some help please, cheers.

  • It’s possible WordPress didn’t write the new rules to the .htaccess. Try renaming your original .htaccess to .htaccess.old, creating any empty .htaccess (make sure it’s writeable by the server!) and re-do the permalinks.

    Hi Mark,

I’ve already tried deleting the .htaccess, which screws everything as you’d expect ’til I go to options>permailinks and use the recreate structure button – but although posts on the home page link fine and display as I want, archives and search are still bust.

    Any ideas please?

Are you using a category base?
