Performance issue after migration

I have been helping to migrate this site. Prior to the migration we created https://www2.managedbypros.com/, migrated all of the files over, and then updated the options and set www2 as the domain. I then loaded better search and replace, updated all of the links, and boom, site worked great.

So them comes time to migration. I update all of the links to https://www.managedbypros.com/ using better search replace and pointed the domain to the new ip (to the same ip as www2) and now I’m seeing 2 second+ load times on pages.

There is nothing special in the .htaccess.

So, I run the updated to go back to https://www2.managedbypros.com/ and it’s lighting fast. I move it to https://managedbypros.com/ (instead of https://www.managedbypros.com/) and it’s slow again.

The cpanel was setup to http://www.managedbypros.com so I figure if it had something to do with that then I would see some performance issues there as well.

https://www.managedbypros.com/ is redirecting to https://managedbypros.com/ , thus the extra time.

That is logical and easily explained:

When you’re using https://www2.managedbypros.com/ it’s “lightning fast”, because there is NO outside traffic going to this URL. Every site and server would be “lightning fast” as long as there is zero traffic going to it.

When you switch to https://www.managedbypros.com/ or https://managedbypros.com/, now all the web site’s traffic (as well as bots!) is hitting the site. So performance will definitely be lower compared with when there is zero traffic.

So your test is more of an “apples to oranges” comparison. If you want to have a true “apples to apples” comparison, use a stress tester to point similar traffic as you have on your main site to www2 as well… then compare the performance of the two. I doubt there will be much difference.

Thanks for the quick responses.

The traffic is minimal. Generally we’re talking a few hits her hour. I has thought about this as well. During the testing period I was literally the only one hitting the site. I was tailing the log files to actually see if there were some other errors that I might have been missing.

As for the www redirecting to the root, http://www.managedbypros.com is the landing site and WP is configured for that in the admin (and all of the relevant links). I toy with that idea a little more, but I had tried setting https://managedbypros.com as the primary and updated the links there as well, same slower experience.
