Paypal IPN error message
-
We use your plugin to process donations to our local non-profit group. The group treasurer is getting the following message from Paypal:
“Please check your server that handles PayPal Instant Payment Notifications (IPN). IPNs sent to the following URL(s) are failing: [removed, see page link]If you do not recognize this URL, you may be using a service provider that is using IPN on your behalf. Please contact your service provider with the above information. If this problem continues, IPNs may be disabled for your account.”
I have instructed the treasurer to uncheck the box next to “Receive messages from enabled IPN” and remove the URL entirely from the Notification URL field in the Paypal account, as we do not use any of the info in the IPN and don’t need to track it. However, he’s saying it’s already disabled. The Paypal support chat provided the following response: “You might still be receiving IPN warnings even when IPN is disabled in your settings due to a third-party shopping cart or API call that includes an IPN. This can override the settings of your PayPal account, including existing IPN configurations. To troubleshoot, you can debug the shopping cart’s API variables and variable values, or contact the shopping cart’s technical support staff. For further resources, you can visit the IPN troubleshooting tips documentation.”
As the group’s web admin, I cannot find any setting in the plugin that will turn this off. Do you have any suggestions of how to proceed further? The treasurer is getting concerned about the volume of warning emails from Paypal. Thanks in advance.
