Go into the Express checkout settings. Scroll down to Marketing Solutions and click the manage settings button. Login to your Paypal account and disable the toggles that it displays.
You might want to go ahead and leave it enabled though because it has been shown to increase conversion rates as well as average order total on most websites.
@iu21ye4v58w37p2yr2q3ljof, I’m sorry you feel that way, but I appreciate the feedback.
The update was more focused on Smart Buttons than anything else. We have gotten feedback that the Marketing Solutions feature is getting enabled automatically, so we’re going to release another update soon that will resolve that issue so you’ll have to turn it on yourself if you want to use it.
If you want to submit a ticket here we can work with you directly to help you get Marketing Solutions disabled since the usual method is not working for you.
The Marketing Solutions stuff is just one feature that we’ve added because it’s a popular feature with PayPal in general, so of course we want to offer it with our plugin. Studies have shown that keeping those banners enabled will increase conversion rates on your site as well as avg. order total because people tend to spend more when they know they can pay it back at 0% for a given period of time. There have not been any other changes or additions that do any sort of marketing outside of that, so I’m not sure what you’re referring to with regard to “marketing platform for PayPal with every upgrade”..?? Again, there is one feature specific to marketing, and we can help you get that disabled with your unique scenario. Just need to work with you directly on that as mentioned.
As for the large Express Checkout JS file we’ll look into that and see if there are any performance improvements we can make there, but based on the feedback we’ve had so far things are working well for the vast majority of our users.
I’m sorry that you feel you need to make a change, but please remember we launched this thing 4+ years ago and it’s been a solid plugin since day one. We are adding new features as PayPal adds new features, and we’re doing our best to resolve any bugs that are reported as quickly as possible. You’ll be hard pressed to find that elsewhere, especially for free.
I hope you’ll reconsider and allow us to help you get things fixed up so you can move forward as expected.
@iu21ye4v58w37p2yr2q3ljof, I see what happened on the JS files. We accidentally used the full version instead of the minified version. We’ll get that adjusted in the 1.4.9 update that we’re working on now and should release in just a day or two. That will take the file from 1.34MB to 132kb.
So thanks for the feedback! That’s how this open source stuff works, ya know? We release free stuff, you use it and give us feedback, and we make improvements based on the feedback. I think you’ll find that sort of back and forth is valuable, and if you witch to some other plugin you may learn that you don’t get the same type of interaction (even with paid plugins.)
We have just released an update (it’s 1.4.8.5 instead of 1.4.9) that fixes the large JS file issue and also fixes the issue where marketing solutions was getting enabled automatically.
I have a Canadian business PayPal account. I’ve searched everywhere for something that says Marketing or Smart incentives. There is no setting or toggle like that.
That’s interesting, Please submit a ticket here and we will look into that and see whats going on there.
Thanks!
