Past Events Sorting

When you are at a past events page, the sort order is backwards. I would expect December events, followed by November, October, and so on. However, it is showing with September events first on the list.

So my question is how to reverse the sorting on these pages?

I have tried under the Twenty Thirteen theme and get the same results. Everything else is out of the box.
