    Hello,

On this page we have three links to three different pages which contain a link to a PDF file.

Every so often WordPress rejects these passwords and no one can access the documents.

I have reset the passwords this morning and it worked up until an hour ago. Then it stopped accepting the passwords. I have refreshed the site and there were no plugin or theme updates so this has not contributed to this issue.

If you are able to advise me on why WordPress keeps rejecting the passwords that would be great.

There is no evidence in any error logs and i have been told that it is NOT a SERVER issue.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hello,

    Apologies about that.

I just need the issue resolved ASAP as the client is getting very agitated.

Try resetting their passwords through other means: https://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password

If you want to explore why it’s happening then you need to be open to the conclusion that it may be a plugin or theme issue.

Try deactivating all of your plugins to explore whether any could be responsible. If none are, keep all plugins deactivated and switch to the Twenty Seventeen theme to check whether it’s an issue with your theme.

    Hi,

    I have already done that

I have reset the passwords this morning and it worked up until an hour ago. Then it stopped accepting the passwords. I have refreshed the site and there were no plugin or theme updates so this has not contributed to this issue.

The issues only arises occasionally. When it stopped working the first thing i did was disabled all the plugins and the theme. The issue still arose.

I have been told that it is not a server side error it is to do with WordPress itself.

I have been told that it is not a server side error it is to do with WordPress itself.

How did that conclusion come about? It is important to understand that as someone knows more information than we do.

Also can you go into more detail when you say “I have reset the passwords this morning and it worked up until an hour ago. Then it stopped accepting the passwords.”.

What happens if you try another password, are there any errors? What do you mean by not accepting?

    Hi,

I have spoken to our hosting provider. They had the same issue as us and the client. They had gone through the error logs and there is no evidence of any errors in there. (the error_log file is empty).

They ran a few tests and have said that it is not an issue with the server but with the website build.

When you input the passwords the page simply refreshes and asks for the passwords again.

Originally, we could just reset the passwords and the system would work fine. Up till the other day (when this ticket was submitted) the passwords worked fine. Then the issue arose so i reset the passwords. Then later on that day they stopped working again. Then i reset the passwords again to get the customer back up and running and it has been fine ever since. Do the passwords ever expire?

Passwords do not expire by default in core.

Can you enable the debugging constant: https://codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress#WP_DEBUG

Then try checking the browser’s console log for any error messages when acting the issue again. Does anything show up? In chrome this can be accessed by pressing F12/ right clicking on the page and pressing “Inspect”, then navigating to the “Console” tab.

    Hi,

Last time it happened there were no error messages or warnings in the console log.

    I have enabled debugging.

    Kind regards
