Hi, Can you be a little more precise? When you say, does nothing, do you mean denied entry? There is no response from the page?
If you can include all the steps you take, and any messages you receive, I can try to help you.
Thank you.
Yes, by “it does nothing” I mean that there is no response from the page. There appears to be some processing in the bottom left corner of the screen but then it ends up just sitting there with the PW Stars. I click again and it processes again, nothing still every time.
Steps taken
Firefox entering as a visitor on the pw protected page
Enter PW then no response from page
I go back to chrome to the logged in page, I go to the back and disable all plugins.
Then go back to Firefox to the page, same results, no response from page.
Then go back to Chrome and switch the the 2013 theme with all plugins disabled.
Then go back to Firefox to test the pw page with all plugins disabled and the 2013 theme. Enter the PW on the pw protected page…. still no response from the page.
Thank you for your help 🙂
Hi, That’s a really thorough set of steps. One more simple thing you can try:
Turn off the password protection, just for a minute, and see if you can load the page. Assuming it does, try turning it back on, setting a new password, and then also republishing it. And then see what happens. Also, it may be good to do some of these steps inside a Chrome Incognito window, which should defeat any caching issues that might arise. If it doesn’t load when you take the password protection off, then you must have some other problem.
I’m only mildly optimistic that will work, and, if it doesn’t, I think the next step would be to try and set up some error logging, and see if that turns up anything. The WordPress Codex article on modifying the wp-config.php file has a section on some ways to do that.
Let me know how you make out.
best,
Vernon
