Support » Fixing WordPress » Password – continuous prompting

  • Hello. I am experimenting with the .htpasswd method of protecting my entire WP blog. The blog is located in a directory called “work”. I have the requisite .htaccess and .htpasswd files working.

When I go to, I am prompted for my username and password (good.) I can view the blog. Then, when I try to view a page within the blog, or a single post, I am prompted for the password yet again (bad.) This happens even if I check “remember me” in the username window.

Is this something WP 2.0 specific? I successfully pass-protected a WP 1.5.2 blog using the same method, without any of these multiple password-prompting headaches.

Can someone please let me know what I’m doing wrong? Do I need to put my .ht_ files in a different directory to prevent this?

One million thank-you’s in advance for any help!!!! 🙂

  • Could someone at least provide some feedback please – is this normal?

I’m still looking for some feedback on this issue. If someone could let me know whether this is even correct behavior or not, I would be very appreciative. Please 🙂
