I was messing with the code and of course, I guess I screwed it up, and got this error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home/tapout/public_html/wp-content/themes/greyzed/functions.php on line 32

And now, I can’t login online under: http://www.tapoutsportsbar.com/wp-admin

I don’t have WP downloaded on my computer. I ALWAYS just upload online…I’ve seen other suggestions on here about changing the .php file…but if I can’t even login, how is that possible.

All of my code and info is stored online, so if I downloaded it & changed the functions.php, it wouldn’t have any of my original content, right???

    PLEASE HELP IMMEDIATELY!!! Thank you.

  • Download a fresh copy of the greyzed theme, extract the functions.php file and upload it to the wp-content/themes/greyzed folder using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

Ok, I downloaded that fresh copy. So, what just go into dreamweaver with the functions.php file and then send it to upload through my WP site address( cause I registered my domain through them), I’m just afraid it’s going to delete all the hard work and everything I put into it???

Yes – just upload a fresh copy. You will loose any other customisations that you might have made to that file but then you really should have made backup copies before and after editing it.

Ok, I’m new to Dreamweaver, and I made a site root folder and made my site the FTP address, and now I’m trying to upload it, do I just export it or, sorry, it seems so easy I just want to make sure I’m doing it right… and this will only change the “functions” file right, not everything?

It says, “are you sure you want to put the entire site?” so that just scares me, because I only wanted to replace the functions.php part…

Then use FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

Ok, that sounds easy…BUT…I’m running a self-hosted WP site, I bought the domain from GoDaddy, but they said I host through TheatreHost, and their website is “under construction” and they have absolutely NO contact info, login, anything…. what do you suggest I do??? I’ve done everything online, and have no WP download stuff or themes, some people said to use Dreamweaver to change it, but I have nothing, none of my stuff in the site root folder, it’s empty….????

I solved this very same issue by calling my host provider and logging into my website url PLUS: /cpanel and editing the messed up code through there. Hope that helps!

I had the same error, couldn’t log into my dashboard and had to download the functions.php file from my cPanel, edit, and upload to fix it Thanks for the tip.

Getting a similar parsing error as identified by others… cannot log in to fix whatever error may have been caused… all my work is saved under my WP login… has everything been lost? Can I retrieve it? How do I log in?

    Please post a new topic.
