Pages not working

    I am not able to provide a link to the website because I am building it on my Mac desktop with Local.  I am working with WordPress 6.2 and the Twenty Twenty Three theme with minimal plugins and the latest version of Local.

    Just when I seem to be making progress I get something else really screwy. Now when I go to my About page or my Contact page from my home page, they both display the home page, even though when I go to edit page for each of them they show the proper content. All each has is a short paragraph. They used to work, but something caused them to stop. I can see that the URL for each has /about or /contact at the end.

    Does anyone have any idea why this would happen or what I can do to correct it? I tried deleting the pages and re-creating them and re-building the navigation menu and restarting my computer. Is this more likely to be a problem with Local or with WordPress?

    Clear the permalinks cache by going to Settings > Permalinks and saving the settings.

    What do you mean by “Local”? For more precise tests, actually deactivate all plugins and also clear the permalinks cache as described.

    Local is an application for developing WordPress sites on a local desktop computer. All the files are stored on my computer hard drive rather than on the internet while I am developing the website. I had thought this was a common practice as a way of building a website offline.

    I upgraded to WordPress 6.2.2 and I tried saving the Permalinks as you suggested.

    I discovered that somewhere along the way in my confusion I put the home page content on the template. I have removed it and it still shows when I edit the page (rather than the template), but it does not show up on the actual website page and I cannot remember how I had it set up before when it worked. The page template has a header and and two columns with a sidebar in one and I want the page content to appear in the other column. I know I had this working for a few weeks.

    I somehow managed to get everything working again and I have no idea exactly how, just as I had no idea what I had done to screw it up to start with. For now I’m OK.
