    Hi,

Im usint the WordPress standard Twenty Ten theme with one column, no side bar.

The text and images are central on the page but dont fill to the width of the header.

How do I make the text fill the page to the same width as the header?

    Thanks

  • Don’t edit the Twenty Ten theme! Your changes will be over-written the next time you upgrade WordPress or the theme. For this reason, it is recommended that you consider creating a child theme for your customisations.

I am new to this so sorry for my ignorance in what i am about to say. By updating the Theme do you mean if i go into

    Appearance
    Editor
Templates, then i says things like 404 Template.php

I havnt altered any of this as i dont understand it. Do you mean if i edit this then when i update the Twenty Ten theme my changes will be written over?

    Thanks

Esmi means is that do not make any changes in twentyten theme as what ever changes you make will be fine until you update wordpress as when you update twentyten theme will over written and you will loose what ever changes you made

So follow the link child theme instructions and create child theme for twentyten and make changes it child theme you copy files from twentyten theme into child theme and make changes there.

mostly you will be making changes in style.css,functions.php and create templates in child theme.

You can see my website by clicking on my name for a example as its a child theme of twenty ten theme.

ok thanks. if i create a child theme will i have to put all of my pages and plugins into the child theme or will they work automatically?

Your plugins posts pages they will work automatically with any theme you do not have install them again.

Theme is a template with layout of wordpress
