This usually means there’s another page or post with the original name – possibly in the trash
(Oh and I should add – I’ve checked my trash, nothing in there. Restoring the previous version of the page also didn’t solve the problem.)
Thanks Cubecolour, but that’s definitely not the case here. An image has the original name and I don’t know how that happened.
Looking at the image link it seems that the image has the filename UTCWAM.jpg, so the image attachment page is using the utcwam slug.
If you go into the media menu and edit that image’s data, you should be able to change the slug in edit media page – the full url is shown under the title and is labeled as permalink. The edit button should allow you to change the slug.
hi Cubecolour. No, sadly there’s no facility to edit the URL on the image’s page. What mystifies me is why this has happened now when it never happened previously.
Should I try deleting the image to free up the intended page name, then reupload the photo?
I’m not sure, but I see no reason why that shouldn’t work if you make the changes in the right order. – delete the image, change the post’s slug, upload the image. If that doesn’t work with the image reuploaded with the same name it might with the filename changed. Then you will need to reattach the image to any posts/pages where it is displayed.
Thanks Cubecolour. There are quite a few pages/posts I’d need to put it back into, so before I do that I’d like to be sure that there’s no other way for me to rectify this problem. I’ll leave this a few hours and see if anyone has any other ideas.
In the absence of any other suggestions, I’ve just done the delete, rename and reupload thing. It seems to have solved it. Thanks Cubecolour.
