Page Permalinks Lead to 404

Hello there,

I am in the midst of creating my first WordPress website. I’ve created a custom template, and am attempting to create an “About” page for the website.

I want the URL to be like this: http://mysite/about. So, I created a permalink in the “Edit Page” for that page, and changed it to http://mysite.com/about.

Whenever I try to view the page, it gives me a 404. I’ve attempted creating multiple pages, with multiple names and permalinks, and nothing seems to be working. I have my Settings > Permalinks set to “Month and Name,” if that helps at all.
