Page ORDER not working

Hello all, I’ve search the archives but I don’t see a discussion of my particular problem.
Simply, my pages are being sorted ALPHABETICALLY and I want them to take on the order I specify in the appropriate management page.
Is this a problem others have experienced? I have a few plug-ins installed. Where in the code is the sorting dealt with?
