Page order and sub menus

I can get my pages to drop menu’s/ parent and child, it say its done in dashboard/pages and when you hover it doesnt show, the page has also dissapeard from viewing when live. I have also tried ordering the pages but this doesnt affect the order and it shows whatever it wants not even in alphabetical order.
