    Hi Everyone

I’ve somehow lost my original contact-us page. When I try to recreate a new page using the same URL, WordPress automatically appends something like contact-us-2 instead.

I’ve spent a lot of time trying to track down the cause and ruled out hosting-related issues. I’ve done extensive research and tried multiple fixes, but I can’t seem to identify what originally went wrong.

At the moment, the old URL is redirected to a new page, which works, but it’s bothering me that I can’t reuse the original slug and I don’t understand why it’s still being reserved.

The only thing I can think of is that the slug was changed at some point while using RankMath. I’ve raised this with them already, but haven’t had any luck so far.

If you have any insight into what might cause this or how to fully release the original URL, I’d really appreciate it.

    Thanks

The original slug contact-us will probably still be assigned to the previous page. I suspect you will find the page under Pages in the trash. Have you looked there yet? You can restore it from there at any time.

If it’s not there, then the slug might be reserved for something else. This could be pages, posts, images, or other post types you use in the project. In that case, WordPress won’t let you reuse the slug as long as it’s still assigned somewhere. You’ll have to find that record – yeah, it’s tricky, but my first guess is the trash.

    Hi, thanks very much.

It’s definitely not in the trash. I’ve checked that thoroughly. I’ve tried everything I can think of and done quite a bit of digging, but I still can’t locate where the original slug is being held.

I believe the issue is related to a slug change somewhere that I can’t now find. This happened almost a year ago when I first started using Rank Math. I think I noticed the mistake at the time and deleted the page, assuming I could simply recreate it using the same URL but that seems to be where things went wrong, and I haven’t been able to recover or release the original slug since.

Any advice or insight you can offer would be greatly appreciated I’m happy to try anything sensible at this point.

    Thanks again

    Hi @chimneytech,

I understand your concern, and let me try to help you with couple of steps that you can try at your end.

    1) Go to Media >> Library, switch to list view, and search for contact-us in media files. If you find an attachment with that slug, edit it and change the permalink, which should fix the issue.

    2) Sometimes a post exists in the database but is not visible in the admin UI. If you are comfortable with database management, check for an auto-draft or orphan post in the database. Please check with your hosting provider for any assistance regarding this.

    3) Try deactivating RankMath and check if that helps to resolve the issue.

You can perform the above suggestions on a staging website without disturbing the live traffic. A staging website is a copy of your live website in a new directory on the same server using a separate database.

    Hi Nebu

Thank you for you. I tried that, nothing found on media and have deactivated rank math several times, unfortunately not technically good with UI but I’ve raised it before with hosting provides who never able to find it.

    Hi @chimneytech,

Have you searched your database to see whether there are any entries or references related to “contact-us”?

If the hosting support is unable to identify the cause, it may be helpful to hire a developer, as this will require a more in-depth review of the database to determine the issue.
