• Hello,
I have a website http://www.evolvingsales.com, where I recently updated PHP and is now running on the latest version of WordPress.
I wanted to add some new Pages using the fancy page layouts that I’ve used for other sites/blogs (for example “About Pages”, “Blog Pages”, “Contact Pages”), but when I try and add a new page, it just gives me a standard blank template, with no option of selecting a Page Layout.
I’m not sure what the reason is and why it works differently for this site vs. the other ones. Any help would be greatly appreciate – thanks so much!

  • I don’t know about “fancy”, but it could be that your other sites were made when you had a theme with starter content. Starter content is only available on a fresh site. Of the default themes, only Twenty Seventeen and Twenty Twenty have starter content.
There are other themes out there with starter content, or demo content (that you load from their site), or plugins with “fancy” templates.
Themes are the typical supplier of page templates.
But WordPress itself does not contain “fancy page layouts”. Some block variations are available more recently.

    Hi Joy,

Thanks for your response! The theme I’m using is “Karuna” – I used the same theme on my test site and on http://www.evolvingsales.com. I’m not sure why the page layouts show up on the test site and not the live site. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!
    Mita

Again, themes with starter content can only apply that starter content on a fresh site. The process is install WP, before any content is added go into Customizer and see the starter content then Publish it.
If you have an existing site, you can switch to a theme with starter content, but it won’t be shown, because there is already content.

But I looked at the Karuna theme page, and it doesn’t mention starter content or page templates like you describe, so perhaps you got them from somewhere else like a plugin.
