Output blog posts on multiple positions

Hey

I am using WordPress for the first time and was wondering if its possible to output the first blog post on a widget position and the rest (starting with the second) in the main content area, like it normaly does.

I already have a template which I am working on and at the end I want to have one post at the top which has full width and the rest beneath with a sidebar (if that makes it a bit more clearer)

Is there any extension who does this or maybe a PHP solution? Keywords would help too.
