    Hi,

We are trying to optimize our images in wordpress to improve loading time.

But when uploading an image in WordPress multiple sizes and files are created on our ftp, which takes up a lot of space. Why are all these different size-versions created and how can we avoid it?

    Regards,
    Mette

  • WordPress make all the various sizes so you can select the desired size in pages and posts. https://wordpress.org/plugins/optimize-images-resizing/ is a plugin that will remove the unnecessary sizes, but I have not used it enough to have any experience with anything else it might be able to do. Also, it only optimizes the total number of images, not the actual images.

Ok thanks! We tried it and it definitely cut out a lot of the unnecessary files.

    Thanks for the advice.

I don’t think your website’s load time is related to the amount of thumbnails WordPress creates in the dashboard, unless you’re talking about the dashboard’s loading time?

No it seems loading time was mainly connected to the size of our images and our slider, which we have corrected now.
