One wordpress database 2 websites

Hi,

I want to create one admin part where I can place all my posts. Now I want two websites and with categories I want to seperate them. Both websites are quite similar but also needs there own menu. I am now brainstorming in how to create it. I came up with the following solution. But is this the most easy way? If not can you tell me! 🙂

2 different index files, index_one and index_two

index_one has his own header_one (with own custommenu) and own sidebar_one (with own widget area)

the trouble with this is that there is no clean index.php page anymore.

what do you guys think of my setup?

Your best bet might be to use WordPress with MultiSite enabled.

I would go with 2 installs
http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_Multiple_Blogs#Single_Database

then use a plugin to feed one from the other
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/feedwordpress/

Please note in WordPress 3.0 there is now a native ability to create multiple blogs, referred to as a network of sites. This is because the codebase for WordPressMU was merged into core

Not at all. There are pros and cons both to using two separate installs versus using two network sites with MultiSite enabled.

There is no definitive “right” answer; it depends entirely on your use case.

no it’s not outdated – it just depends on what you’re trying to achieve and the easiest way for you to do it

multisite would work with some custom taxonomies or such

hmmm,

I quick read both the instructions and the solution of Samuel sounds way easier.

It would be great to also have one place to change all the menu’s (instead of logging-in on the different menu’s). How would you do that if you do it your way?

Create any number of menus, just call them properly on your header.
