Hey! I just edited the tags on some old WordPress posts from the posts menu using the quick edit functionality and it posted each of these posts via activity pub to mastodon. Surely this isn’t desired functionality?

Just to be a bit more clear. These are old posts which predate the installation of the plugin. I added/changed some tags via the posts screen, not actually in the post itself and they posted themself for the first time to my feed.

Basically, if you use the edit functionaity, it’s possible to spam your feed without realising, without of date content.

Is it possible to not post changes to old pages which haven’t been publish before? Or perhaps disable posting for edits at all?

    Hi delanthear,
(I’m not a mod or a dev, but…) If you use the standard Edit Post, then you can select “Do Not Federate” in the RHS column under Fediverse>Visibility. I realise this isn’t an answer to your case of using the Quick Edit, but it’s at least a workaround for now.

I think the plugin needs to have check a check and have a confirmation asking if you want to re-federate on edits of already published posts. A bit like when wordpress warns you before publishing. You might need a pop up on the bulk edit interface, but it means you won’t forgot to check a setting and spam your followers with 30 posts if you tidy up some tags 🙁

On the “do not federate” option, does that actually remove any previous posts visibility? Or is at a “don’t post this instance” option. The wording is unclear: “This adjusts the visibility of a post in the fediverse, but note that it won’t affect how the post appears on the blog.”
