• Hi,

Fairly new to WP, but familiar with networking and support-type information. I am working on a friend’s site (psychfitness.com) that was setup by a designer, has a theme, some plugins, and has wordpress installed in a subfolder “/wordpress” and is hosted by Yahoo Small Business.

Other than the homepage, “/wordpress” would come in all links. I thought this was due to the files being in a “/wordpress” folder. I read http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress to fix this, and now I really screwed it up!

Here’s what I did, and then tried to undo:
I moving the files up one folder level, (in yahoo’s hosting package, there is a subdirectory after the root (the username on the account), and all files are there, unlike other hosting packages. They say it’s a shared server package.

I changed the index.php file to remove the /wordpress

In wordpress, I removed the /wordpress from 2 lines under Settings (can’t log in right now to tell the exact lines).

Even though the article says I need to change the .htaccess file, yahoo does not allow this.

now it’s really jacked up. Any help?

  • Yes. Find a new host. Not only do you pretty much 0 support at yahoo, but trying to run a site with no .htaccess is impossible. There are many, better, and less expensive hosts out there.

Thanks. I see that doing this would require moving the email accounts too, and the site owner is not interested in that at this time.

Any suggestions to make the transition easier?

The email, mail.yahoo.com should have nothing to do with the website.

The site is up and running so that is good.
