This plugin does not affect standalone images – the custom links and other settings are only applied inside the [gallery] shortcode. WordPress has its own fields for adding a link to a standalone image.
OK, thanks. But a well-known developer on the Studio Press site said it would work without [gallery]. Not sure you can get to this link without logging in:

Here is her post about your plugin:
I’ve used that [your plugin] on individual images. So I am not sure what you read – but if you install it and then look at an individual image – you will see “Gallery Image” and where to place the URL. You don’t have to have a gallery for that to work. They probably should change that name on there.
My Problem: I have a ton of Amazon buttons on a site and I don’t want to change the link on each one. Was hoping to find a plugin that will let me set a global URL on an image. You can do it when you first upload but can’t edit it from what I understand.
Yours does it, but only in the context of a gallery which I’m not using. When I read her post above I thought maybe this would work, but it doesn’t. Thus, I’m not sure what she is referring to, except she is the one who mentioned your plugin in the thread.
Thanks for the help.
The Studio Press developer is incorrect – perhaps they are thinking of a different plugin? The screenshot below was taken after inserting a standalone image into content, then clicking on the photo to edit it. You can see where “Custom URL” is a link option, and I’ve entered google.com as my link for that standalone image. This was all done with the WP Gallery Custom Links plugin disabled – linking standalone images is built into WordPress core. “Gallery Link URL” is specifically named to indicate to users that it only applies to galleries.

Thanks for the clairfication.
I sure wish I could find a plugin or some PHP code that would let me set a global link for an inserted image.
Might be a good idea for a plugin!
What you could do instead is create a custom shortcode that displays that image with the link around it – then you would be able to drop the shortcode in wherever you need the linked image. Maybe with the help of something like the following:
http://wordpress.org/plugins/post-content-shortcodes/
https://wordpress.org/plugins/content-shortcodes/
Your idea will be fine for next time… but I already have the buttons in the pages. Looks like I will have go in and edit each one. PITA. 🙁
