    Totally my fault – changed get_usermeta to get_user_meta without changing the parameters… it wouldn’t have been bad if WordPress had made the default data return format of the replacement function the same as the data format the old one returned but no… they had to make it so that to get it to return the same data as the function it replaces you have to add a third parameter!
