I’ve updated the site to the latest WordPress version today, successfully. I then tried to update WooCommerce as well and this failed. Usualy get an email with a link to enable us to access the admin page and recover the site. Normally by using rollback. This time there has been no email. How do we go about getting a link that we can use?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @robjackzn,

Kindly check whether the email landed in your spam folder.

Nonetheless, if you’re unable to find it, you can move forward to manually check your error logs (logs/error.log) to find out log entries related to the error that might help identify the plugin(s) causing the critical error. You can access the error logs via FTP, CPanel, or by asking your host to check for you.

You will also want to disable the culprit plugin(s) via FTP or CPanel and see whether you can get back WP-Admin access. There’s a useful article on alternative ways of disabling plugins, but your host can also assist here.

Once you get WP-Admin access to your site, it would be good to do a conflict test: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/how-to-test-for-conflicts/

Hope this helps and you’ll be able to get your site back up and running.

I’ve got round this problem by a) getting our hosting service to make wp-admin available; b) using the Rollback feature in WordPress to take WooCommerce back to V5.0.0 from V5.1.0.

More than a little worried that if I try to upgrade WooCommerce to 5.1.0 again it will result in the same failure

    Hi @robjackzn,

Thanks for the update, glad you were able to get back into WP-Admin.

I suggest that you experiment with the update on a staging/testing site. If you don’t have one already, your hosting company might offer one as part of your package. Alternatively, you can use a free plugin like https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-staging/

On the staging site, deactivate all plugins and switch to a default theme or the Storefront theme. You can then try updating WooCommerce to see if anything comes up. If nothing goes haywire, activate the other plugins one by one and each time check whether there’s one that will conflict with the updated WooCommerce version.

Let us know how it goes.
